Emily Francis / Sales and Marketing Executive

Gericke RotaVal design, engineer and manufacture rotary valves at our site in Chippenham, Wiltshire. My role covers a whole host of things but I’m primarily responsible for following up on quotations, CRM management and all aspects of the marketing for RotaVal!

How many years have you worked in the engineering industry?

1 year! I worked in marketing for 5 years previous to joining RotaVal though.

What do you love about the engineering industry?

The unknown… There’s so much that goes into the production of products we use every single day that you don’t even consider. I’ve always had a bit of a fascination with how things work and are made and processed. I also love how products can be adapted to suit different materials or systems too. It’s such a problem solving industry but there is still so much to be discovered and thought of. Looking back to how far things have come already, there’s going to be so much more to come and that’s really exciting, whatever it may be!

Advice for a young woman looking at getting into any aspect of the engineering industry

Don’t be put off by the fact it’s a male dominated industry! I’m lucky enough to really not let it bother me, but I can see how it could make some feel a little uneasy. However, everyone I’ve worked with, spoken to and met have been super lovely, and incredibly interesting! It’d be so great to look at the industry in a few years and see more females dominating and I’m really looking forward to what the future of engineering will look like!

Why you think women are important to all aspects of this industry?

The same reason I think men are important to all aspects of this industry! Women are no better, or no lesser than men and both are needed in the world. It’s all about a healthy balance. It is and (I believe) always will be a male dominated industry, but the women I’ve met over the past year of working within engineering are all dominant, strong willed and incredible and I have no doubt the industry will continue to benefit from a little bit more girl power!

Best Regards - Emily Francis / Sales and Marketing Executive
